Learning Experience 1
The first learning experience for program outcome number five would have to be my personal stress management project. I started this project while taking my course in stress management FW-321. I thought that it coincided with program outcome number five because it is dealt with personal health and well being. During this project, I administered a self-examination and evaluated where I was with respect to my physical health and mental well-being. I begin to look into some of the coping mechanisms thatI have been practicing and if they were indeed, beneficial or harmful to me. At the end, I devised a plan to help me sustain a better personal health and increase my awareness.
I believe that any time you learn or become self-aware that is significant. I also feel that when a behavior or lifestyle is changed as a result of that learning it is truly significant. This project had that effect on me and still does to this day. I took FW 321 stress management in the fall of 2017 and I still practice the concepts that I learned during that project. I have taken what I learned and passed on the knowledge to patients, colleagues, and family members. Stress management is something
anyone in the health care field can use and certainly share with others.
Learning Experience 2
Program outcome number five states, that graduates will demonstrate awareness and skills to sustain personal health and well-being. I believe that my paper on the top ten things learned is a good illustration of this outcome and shows that I have an understanding of topics that center around personal health and well-being. Some of the topics discussed in the paper are about achieving a healthy self-esteem, psychological health, environmental health and exercises for people with health problems. Being aware of these skills are important for healthcare providers, and the patients they treat. In my current place of employment, educating families about the benefits of a health lifestyle and well-being it so important. When developing a home program that families can use, I stress the importance of modeling the lifestyle that you desire. I also stress the importance and benefits of mindfulness. Helping others become more aware of their emotions and the bodies’ response to stress and anxiety. Knowing the skills to sustaining personal health has its for the health provider. Caring for others when our bodies are in a physically and mentally drained state of being will not offer our patients any advantages.
Learning Experience 3
My third learning experience for program outcome five was a project I did in HS 200 called Random Acts of kindness. I picked this project, because of the impact it had on me. When looking through the library, I could not find any peer-reviewed journals or books that documented if performing random acts of kindness was beneficial to personal health. I can only speak from my own experience of doing this project, and the change it produced in me. Following this project I felt a sense belonging and purpose that I had not felt in many years. I believe that when we feel good emotionally our personal health is equally influenced. People with depression rarely state they physically feel great the two often go hand in hand. Showing compassion to others in need can be mutually beneficial to our self. The paper explains the acts of kindness that I embarked on from volunteering at the veterans’ hospital to attending meetings and supporting others in crisis. At the clinic, I work at we all volunteer once or twice a year within the community. The level of moral is often very high following one of these events and it often translates into feeling mentally fulfilled.
